Yulia Tymoshenko: defense brigades will be formed of military and reservists

_apx8931.jpgPresidential candidate and leader of the Batkivshchyna Party Yulia Tymoshenko says the territorial defense brigades that are being former right now in the Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia oblasts include former military specialists.

"Territorial defense brigades will include only military, including special services reservists that have experience working in defense and have combat experience, and know how to use weapons," Yulia Tymoshenko said at a press conference today in Kyiv.

The leader of Batkivshchyna stressed that these groups will coordinate their actions with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. "This is separate from the civic movement. These will be self-governing and self-organizing structural subunits of the Ministry of Defense," she said.

She said that unlike the National Guard, the Resistance Movement is being formed temporarily in connection with the military threat to Ukraine’s territorial integrity. "As soon as this threat disappears, the Resistance Movement will be disbanded and will deal with peaceful matters," Yulia Tymoshenko said.

The leader of Batkivshchyna reiterated her call to responsible politicians and presidential candidates to join efforts and not conduct a traditional election campaign. "The billboards throughout Ukraine are just causing resentment among the public. I think it is immoral today to be conducting a traditional election PR campaign," she said.

Yulia Tymoshenko said the HQ of the National Resistance Movement will hold its first meeting today during which they plan to approve the structure, commanders of two territorial defense brigades, approve a mobilization action plan, training and other activities. The leader of Batkivshchyna underscored that all the structural units of the Resistance Movement will coordinate their activities with the Ministry of Defense, Interior Ministry, Security Service of Ukraine, and National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. "This will be a single integrated system that won’t have any uncoordinated chaotic actions," she said.

"What was done in Crimea and what is happening now in the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts is only part of Putin’s plan. There is a serious risk that Putin plans to occupy all of Ukraine. Seeing the way the Ministry of Defense, Interior Ministry and Security Service work today, we are obligated to ensure that every citizen of Ukraine that wants to defend their land has the opportunity to do so as part of an organized and coordinated defense system," Yulia Tymoshenko said.
